Beyond Your Wildest Dreams

Words and Music by Don't Tell Johnny

The inspiration for this song is Otto Lilienthal. He was an early aviator who made great progress in the development of hang gliders. He was known as “The Darling of Fliegeberg” (literally ‘fly hill’). Lilienthal published a famous book, ’Birdflight as the Basis for Aviation’ in 1889. The Wright brothers took great inspiration from his work. Lilienthal was sadly killed when one of his gliders stalled unexpectedly. His last words to his brother Gustav were ’Sacrifices must be made’. Air travel, that we all take for granted these days ,was made possible due to the work of early pioneers such as Otto Lilienthal.

Willow wood and woven cloth
Only has one neck to break
Shadow from the tallest hill
And marvel in his wake
Majestic beating wings take flight
If storks can do it so can he
A man possessed, he will not rest
And snub anxiety

Fly, You darling of Fliegeberg
Your crazy harebrained schemes
Your crazy harebrained schemes
Fly, fly like a bird
Beyond your wildest dreams
Beyond your wildest dreams

No cares about the fading wind
No time to fear or hang around
Forward and then swing legs back
Dive and hit the ground
These brave men bold will raise the bar
And be forever unafraid
A broken wreck, a twisted neck
The sacrifices made

Fly, You darling of Fliegeberg
Your crazy harebrained schemes
Your crazy harebrained schemes
Fly, fly like a bird
Beyond your wildest dreams
Beyond your wildest dreams

Fly, You darling of Fliegeberg
Your crazy harebrained schemes
Your crazy harebrained schemes
Fly, fly like a bird
Beyond your wildest dreams
Beyond your wildest dreams
